More Than a Toy: The Mighty Miles Foundation’s 3rd Annual Toy Drive

At The Mighty Miles Foundation, we believe that even in life’s most difficult moments, there should always be room for joy, laughter, and the simple magic of being a kid.

Our 3rd Annual Toy Drive was an incredible success, bringing together a community of generous hearts to collect more than 1,000 toys for children and families facing medical challenges. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of our donors, we were able to divide these toys between Ronald McDonald House Charities in Rochester, Minnesota, and Ronald McDonald House Charities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with each location receiving approximately half of the donations.

As we reflect on this year’s toy drive, our hearts are full of gratitude. What may seem like a simple toy to some can mean so much more to a child spending their days navigating hospital visits, treatments, procedures, and the uncertainty that often comes with a medical journey.

More Than a Toy in Their Hands

When a child is facing a serious medical challenge, so much of their world can suddenly revolve around appointments, hospital rooms, medications, and procedures. Childhood can begin to look very different from what it should be.

But a toy has the power to change a moment.

It can bring a smile to a child’s face. It can spark imagination, encourage play, create a distraction from a difficult day, or offer a little comfort when things feel overwhelming. For a little while, that child gets to focus on something other than their diagnosis, their next appointment, or what might happen next.

They get to play. They get to laugh. They get to imagine. They get to simply be a kid.

Because this mission has never been just about putting a toy into a child’s hands. It is about what that toy creates in their heart.

It is about the laughter that fills a room. The excitement of opening something new. The moment a child becomes completely absorbed in play instead of thinking about what hurts or what comes next.

And it is about the parents, too.

For parents watching their child navigate a medical journey, the weight of worry, fear, and uncertainty can be overwhelming. They would give anything to take away their child’s pain and make everything feel normal again. Seeing their child smile, laugh, and experience a moment of pure childhood joy can mean more than words can ever express.

Sometimes, that little smile is a much-needed reminder that beneath the medical challenges, their child is still just a kid who deserves to play, dream, laugh, and experience happiness.

Those moments matter. They matter deeply.

A toy may be small, but the joy, comfort, and sense of normalcy it can bring to a child and their family are immeasurable.

A Thousand Toys. Countless Moments of Joy.

This year, our community helped us collect more than 1,000 toys, and we could not be more grateful.

We also want to give a very special thank-you to Nicole Raupp, (or “Auntie Mommy”,) whose beautiful handmade plant stands helped raise more than $1,200. Those funds were used to purchase all-new toys for the drive, adding even more excitement and fresh opportunities for play to our donations.

Nicole, thank you for sharing your creativity and generosity with our mission. Your contribution helped turn something beautiful that you created with your hands into something beautiful that will touch the lives of children and families who need a little extra joy.

We are also incredibly thankful to the local businesses, organizations, and individuals who helped make this year’s toy drive possible:

  • Maplewood of Sauk Prairie

  • Walgreens in Reedsburg, Wisconsin

  • UW Health Cross Plains Clinic

  • Peterson and Company Gym

  • Nicole Raupp

  • Every individual and family who donated toys, contributed financially, spread the word, or supported this mission in any way

To everyone who filled a donation box, purchased a toy, bought a plant stand, gave financially, or encouraged someone else to participate: thank you.

Every single contribution mattered. Every toy represented someone who cared enough to make a difference in the life of a child they may never meet.

That is the beauty of community. We can come together, each in our own way, to create something far bigger than any one of us could accomplish alone.

Why This Mission Matters

At The Mighty Miles Foundation, our mission is rooted in the belief that children facing medical challenges deserve moments of happiness, comfort, and the opportunity to experience childhood in the midst of circumstances they never asked for.

We know a toy cannot take away a diagnosis. It cannot erase a difficult treatment or make the uncertainty of a medical journey disappear. But it can bring light into a hard day.

It can give a child something to look forward to. It can create a moment of laughter in a place that may feel frightening or unfamiliar. It can give parents the gift of watching their child experience a little piece of normal life again.

And sometimes, those little moments become the ones families hold onto the tightest.

A smile in the middle of a difficult week. A laugh that breaks through the worry. A child happily playing, even if just for a little while.

These moments may seem small from the outside, but to a family going through a medical challenge, they can mean everything.

That is why we do this. That is why we continue to show up. And that is why we are so passionate about bringing our community together to support children and families when they need it most.

From Our Mighty Miles Family to Yours: Thank You

As we celebrate our third annual toy drive, we are reminded once again of the incredible power of kindness and the difference a community can make when it comes together for a meaningful cause.

More than 1,000 toys will now have the opportunity to create moments of happiness for children and families staying at Ronald McDonald House Charities in Rochester, Minnesota, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in our mission, supporting our foundation, and helping us make a difference one child, one smile, and one moment at a time.

With grateful hearts,

The Mighty Miles Foundation ❤️
